The aim of this site is to promote the use of the Soroban (Japanese abacus) in Wales, the rest of the UK, Ireland and the world.
You will find resources for learning how to use the Soroban, and how it may be used in education in Wales and any other country.
The Soroban is a sophisticated abacus which has been used in Japan for hundreds of years.
It has a stimulating effect on the workings of the brain. Which works more effectively when both sides, ie. left and right, work together. Working with a Soroban stimulates this working together.
In Asia some form of abacus is used in education. The children in schools of these countries show better skills in mental arithmetic.
